A reply to Yochanan:

A. Moral issues and values are modeled. Our actions speak so loudly
our
voices or lack thereof are overshadowed any way. We teach our moral
issues
and values whether we like it or not. We also tend to mimic what the
majority models, like it or not.

B. The Web is a supplement to the rest of our entire lives, not a
replacement for any. It is a technology as are the phone, tv, car,
books,
etc., none of which have replaced our lives. It is satisfying to some
in
some ways, and to others in other ways, and some just don't know yet as
is
the case with the phone, tv, car, books, etc.

C. Values are verified over time. I avoid the phone, watch little tv,
drove to Michigan to see my sister this weekend, brought books, and am
writing this e-mail. I value interruptions and tv little, cars and
books
much. As you get to know more about me, where I go, who I visit, what I
read: we will be more open and interactive and you will come to know my
values. The phone, tv, car, books, web, etc., facilitate our
interactions.
The interactions transmit the values (like it or not) and are satisfying
(or
not). The technology and tools facilitate or muddle the interactions
and
transmissions depending on each of us and our moods on a given time
schedule. But neither the technology nor the tools are the interaction
or
our reaction to it.
