Dear all
The European standards organisation CEN/ISSS has commissioned a survey of
Educational modelling languages (EMLs). I have been asked to draw this to
the attention of members of this list and to invite them to participate.
The text of the call follows and gives a little information about EMLs and
their potential relevance to teaching and learning. If this area is of
interest to you, and you would like to see demonstrations of EMLs and meet
developers and users, please note that there will be a free workshop on
EMLs at the Polytechnic of Turin (Torino), Italy, on October 3.

---EMLs are being developed and used around the world. They tend to be based around XML and are used to create highly-structured course material. An EML-based course might offer features such as: re-useable course material, personalised interaction for individual students, media independence, etc.
The CEN/ISSS Workshop on Learning Technologies (WSLT) is working on a preparatory agreement that may ultimately lead to an official European standard. Through standardization, it would be possible, for example, for course material to be re-used between compliant EML platforms from different vendors. This study of existing EMLs has been commissioned in order to inform the WSLT in its work.
The EML Study is being carried out by The Open University of the Netherlands, The British Open University and UNED (Universidad Nacional de Educacion a Distancia, Madrid, Spain).
Your input to the EML survey ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you have developed, or are developing, an educational modelling language, we would like to hear from you. Specifically, the survey would like to receive any information you might care to send, such as the EML’s information model, DTD and practices. Your information should be sent to Dr. Nikolaus Kovacs (nikolaus.kovacs@din.de). The closing date for submitting information to be included in the survey is 28th September, 2001.
EML Survey workshop, Turin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A workshop will take place at the Polytechnic of Turin on 3rd October, to which you are invited. This will be an opportunity to demonstrate your EML.
Further information ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To join the EML Survey listserver, send an email to nikolaus.kovacs@din.de To download the latest information, visit: http://www.ni.din.de/sixcms/detail.php3?id=1177
We look forward to hearing from you.
