Presuming you mean multimedia used in learning. Unfortunately, this is one of
those "how long is a piece of string?" questions. There are plenty of debates on
the true costs of creating truely interactive, highly media rich pieces of
learning. Here's some of my thoughts and experiences. And they're based on
reality, so some of it might be difficult to stomach in terms of attractiveness.
I advise many people to think of figures between UKP 25K and UKP 50K ($40K and
$70K) for each online hour of interactive learning. It sounds like a lot and it
is when you add up the army of professional individuals involved in creating a
piece from end to end. But actually, when you compare that to ongoing costs of
delivery, travelling and hotelling over a number of years, it starts to make
sense as a price per learner through a programme - get your students to think
that through when doing ROI models.
An course of highly interactive online learning (say 2 or 3 hours) can take
(again figures I've seen bandied around) anything between 1000 and 3000 person
hours to define, design, develop, deploy and deliver end-to-end. I use a block
figure of around UKP25 ($35) per person hour to start figuring the price range.
Special issues to consider -
For audio voiceovers
Voiceover artists and their time in a studio will vary on the licensing
agreement you look for - is it for use in one company/school, only one type of
medium or many, or is it a global all use all countries license you're seeking?
You may expect to may around UKP1K - UKP1.5K ($1.5K - $1.9K) per hour of
professional voiceover in a regular professional studio delivered as computer
audio files broken down the way you need them.
Video
I've seen figures of around UKP20K for the cost of shooting 1 hour of full
motion video with professional actors on a pro shoot.
Of course, these fugures all dip sharply when you introduce a "home-made"
element to these things. You can do things on the cheap - if it doesn't matter.
My tuppenth anyway :-)
