Dear all,
A previous post "Civil Globalization" (repeated below) suggested that to
defeat terrorism Americans, and all world citizens, must adopt a new
mind-set. One that replaces "nationalism" with "globalism." That is to
live up to the old mantra 'think globally, act locally."

A fallout from that post has been a project to help make this mind-set
change. 'A Coalition for Self-Learning and 'WinWinWorldNetwork" are
proposing a broad scale movement for all progessive groups.

The basic idea is to develop a number of learning modules on Civil
Globalization that could be used by Learning Circles, homeschool support
groups, Learning Co-ops, and other discussion groups. Each module would
have background and resource for one discussion session on Civil
Globalization.
Any discussion group could select any number of learning modules for a
series of discussions. Topics might include: "What is a Culture ?" "How
Does American Culture Differ from Others?" "What are Cultural Clashes ?"
"What is the Taliban ?" "Is Muslim one culture?" "Why do some cultures hate
Americans?" "Can a equitable and just new civilization be based on many
cultures ?" and others.

These learning modules would be distributed from a centeral Global Learning
Center (GLC) that would also work to establish local local Co-operative
Community Life-Long Learning Centers (CCL-LLCs). Other sets of learning
modules on topics like "Environmnt," "Peace," "Human Rights," "Solar
Energy," and what not would also be developed to widen the opportunites for
non-school learning.

IMHO the only way to defeat terrorism is through a global "mind-set." This
seems to be not in the plan of the President so it is a challenge for
we-the-people.
We welcome any input that you might give to this effort.

 CIVIL GLOBALIZATION

September 11 marks the end of the nation-state and the beginning of a fully
globalize world. As we all move through the rubble of WTC and the
Pentagon, mourn for the lost lives, and celebrate the heroes, we are also
clelebrating the beginning of a radically different World.

Globalization has been slowly creeping up on us for a few decades. The
corporate world was the first to globalize. Left alone in this new mode it
developed an arrogance that eclipsed governance by the nation-state. But a
globalized civil society emerged to question corporate globalization.
Unfortunately the voices of the protesters were muffled. The globalized
corporate world was too dominant. So, on the festering hate of many left
without voice in this new world, globalized terrorism rose to become the
final arbiter of a new globalized society.

September 11 was the wake up call. But not for a military force that would
forever bridle terrorism, and eliminate human rights. It was the wake up
call for serious attention to the rise of a globalized civil society. The
rules of an industrial society have been shattered. No longer will humanity
rise to the allure of the corporate industrial society. Materialism,
consumerism money, and jobs can no longer be the central motivation of all
people. Our schools can not longer prepare future citizens for a existance
in lifelong workday labor.

The call of September 11 is for a new globalism of the minds and hearts of
all people. We cannot have a world in which we live in fear and loathing.
This new world will not result from routing out the existing terrorists,
from surrendering human rights, from more policing, from more weapons, nor
from a few scattered teach-ins in colleges, universities and highschools.

This is a time to recognize that we already live in a globalized world. It
is time for humanity to rise to the challenge. It is time to put aside our
nationalism and materialism and embrace the new age suddently thrust upon
us. Tolerance, respect, understanding, and most of all knowledge must
replace our love of material well-being. Our minds and hearts must find new
dedication to family, community, the common good, and the harmony of nature.
Terrorism must be defeated by a new social order.
A Civil Global Governance of human harmony must replace the world that ended
September 11.
IMHO
