Best practices for 21 st century
Great topic
I am pleased to offer some ideas
Best practices for 21 st century
(1)Should include active engagement that really make the students think use higher level thinking- not just make them look and find. It is interesting how many principals say "don't let your students do worksheets" but then let teachers use puzzle searches in which kids basicly have to find words in a matrix. Yeah they are engaged but they learn nothing.
(2) Copying definitions out of a dictionary. Another engaged waste of time. Have them make up sentences using the words= put in context.
(3) Use computers for concept reinforcement. Scrap the games that just act as recall of useless information. ex. millionaire
(4) Use simulation (simcity2000) but not letting students do what ever they want with it and no cheat codes. Use sound examples ideas and be efficient. I have simcity sheet to start them off. Contact me personally if you want them. (don't put on this listserve).
(5) Have students engage in long term research projects that are based on answering questions and solving problems and ideas and are of different context that discourage copying from the internet. The assessment can't be (fill out 20 cards or make it 20 pages).
more to come
