Greetings,

In part I agree with everyone.

At the end of the day resources are only going to be worthwhile if teachers and
students want to use them.
Both these groups unfortunately contain "people", and as we know "people" are by
and large a fairly idiosyncratic bunch. They pretty much tend to suite
themselves despite the best efforts of constructivist instructional designers
and intelligent delivery platforms.

Some teachers prefer to construct their own course based on their own collection
of resources and experience, others might look for a text book that provides all
the activities, worksheets and lesson plans for them. Some students want to be
spoon fed, others want to be left alone to get on with it.

Learning technologies need to allow for this. I think we will find that we are
going to need different approaches for different purposes.
I mentioned in a previous email about xml based "courses on the fly". I think
that there is a real future for learning objects used in this way but heaven
forbid it is the only one.

I think the POLTS approach would be quite useful in some situations particularly
if used as an introduction to the broader world of elearning.
