P488.1
Project Documents
29-Apr-2004 -- The IEC National Committees voted to adopt the
IEEE's new 488.1 standard as part of the IEEE/IEC "dual logo" publishing
program. The final vote took place in France in January 2004. Of the 23
National Committees voting, there was 1 negative vote -- from Germany with the
comment "The draft in question is a vendor-specific solution and therefore not
suitable for international standardization." This is good news because now we
won't have two different standards in use in Europe vs. in the USA. -- Joe
Czapski, Chair IMS TC-8
28-Apr-2004 -- The IEEE marketing dept. issued a
Press Release regarding the revision of
488.1 in
October 2003.
16-Jun-2003 -- The new IEEE 488.1 standard was APPROVED by
the IEEE Standards Board on June 12. I believe that this marks the end of
the project. Thank you to those of you who worked on the project and who
were involved in the debate over its merits. A lot of time and effort was
expended over the years.
07-May-2003 -- Project status: The third
ballot recirculation has concluded on Draft 1.4 of the high-speed revision of
the 488.1 standard. The ballot passed with 80% approval. The IEEE
Standards Board is now reviewing the project documents and will contact me
within a few weeks with concerns and/or final approval. I will post the
results here.
