Attendance list for the 981012 meeting
Working Group reports received before the 981012 meeting

Dinner speaker:

Bob Beauchamps of Data General presented the work of the P1596.8 Working Group on Standard Cables for SCI. Their draft standard is available online at P1596.8 Draft 0.6. (There should be a draft 0.7, we will post that as soon as possible.)

The minutes of the last meeting were approved (moved by Bob Davis, seconded by Martin Freeman, no objections).

Officers Reports:

Don Wright will be representing the MSC at the SAB meeting in San Diego, and is collecting information we would like to have presented.

Our treasurer did not have the exact figures at hand, but most of the money accumulated in the account is for International Standards Participation Fees collected, with a balance of about $1000 for the MSC's own use.

New Business:

We agreed to request a Project Authorization for P1284r, to revise the IEEE printer cable standard. Moved by Don Wright, seconded by Dick Karpinski, no objections.

We agreed to the P1596.8 Working Group's request to submit their draft to balloting, no objections.

Working Group reports:

P1394.1 there is a move afoot to have NIST fund ANSI for our International Standards work. That would eliminate a continuing trouble spot, trying to assess our volunteers to pay for the international work.

There have been a lot of good contributions to the P1394.1 work, available at the IEEE Web pages. See http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/1394/1/index.html

1596 had a major conference at Bordeaux, many good papers. Info is available online at http://www.uni-paderborn.de/pc2/SCI-Europe98/

Study Group reports:

P1537 met in September, got inputs from IBIS, Viewlogic, TRW. The only problem stopping progress at the moment is the objection from the DASC. (Subsequently it appears the existing work in the DASC, Design Automation Standards Committee, will mesh well with this project, so there should not be a problem.)

For the Good of the Society:

Bob Davis expressed the opinion that the new MSC web site is useful, open information, reduces obstacles for new participants.

Our next meeting will be at SCU again, on January 11, 1999.
