IEEE Rail Transit Vehicle Interface Standards Committee

May 12, 1997

As we agreed at our last meeting in Irvine, the next meeting of the full committee will be held in Chicago on June 25th and 26th 1997. We'll be meeting in the Holiday Inn at O'Hare Airport. Reserve your rooms by calling 847 671-6350 and state you are attending the IEEE Rail Transit Standards meeting to obtain our rate of $119/night plus tax. Our block of rooms at this rate will be held through June 10th. Enclosed are directions to the hotel and other information. The Holiday Inn offers a free airport shuttle service 24 hours a day so you will not need a rental car. Please complete the attached form to confirm your attendance at the meeting.

Our agenda on Wednesday, June 25th will consist of status reports by our working group chairs Bob Anderson, Dave Rutherford, Tom Sullivan, Linda Sue Boehmer, Jim Hoelscher, Dave Phelps, Claude Gabriel, Lance Cooper and Chuck Elms. In addition, we'll have updates on some recent standards developments. These include Stan Canjea's successful effort to form an ASME Rail Transit Vehicle Standards Committee. Its first task will be to tackle buff load and crashworthiness standards for light rail cars. Other developments include Harvey Glickenstein's success in securing the appointment of a new US Technical Representative to the IECTC9 Committee, the recent vote by IECTC9 on the TCN protocol, Jim Kemp's liaison for our committee with the TCIP protocol effort, ongoing AAR work on monitoring and diagnostics, developments with the PRESS commuter rail standards, and an update on Tom Sullivan's Web page progress.

On Thursday, June 25th Lance Cooper's Vehicle Passenger Information Standard will undergo final review preparatory to balloting. Also in the afternoon, Pat Murphy is arranging a tour of the CTA maintenance facility at Rosemont. It promises to be a very interesting meeting and we look forward to seeing you there.

Regards,

Thomas J. McGean
