Scope:
This standard outlines the requirements for identification marking of trolley contact wire used in overhead contact systems so that they can be identified as to owner, composition and conductivity

Purpose:
At the present time, only EU standards governing the marking of trolley contact wire for overhead contact systems for streetcar, light rail, heavy rail,  trolley bus or electric railroad exist. EU standards use a continual groove marking system which can be confusing and difficult to identify the many different types of trolley wire being used in the industry. The standard presented herein provides methods and guidelines for consistent and understandable marking of trolley wire using letters and numbers.
