Re: Minutes from the Task Force on PQ Indices meeting at the 1999 Summer Power Meeting in Edmonton, AB
Discussion of definitions followed. Both Dan Sabin & Marek Walclawiak mentioned the need for a change in the voltage sag definition. Cheri Warren wanted to make sure the dates & definitions used in 1159 and 1250 are common and superceeded by the latest standard.
It was moved and unanimously was passed to use P1433/D5 A Draft Standard of Power Quality Terminology definitions. A copy of the P1433/D5 definitions will be forwarded to Mike Sheehan and Russ Ehrlich for incorporation to the minutes.
Dan Sabin or Electrotek worked on indices before; he was not prepared to discuss at this meeting, however will forward the paper to Russ Ehrlich to incorporate into the minutes. Dan will present the methodology at the next meeting.
Dennis Hanson was introduced and provide and a brief discussion on voltage sag criteria, how to characterize them (Index/Matrix) and where to measure them. Question arose over the terminology measured or calculated. Dennis presented his method, insert file here.
Discussion followed the presentation. The following were the major points raised:
Mag/duration
Different variations of SARFI (90%, 70%,…)
SARFIsemi – only mag/duration.
Dan Ward mentioned the need for simple monitoring equipment and the need to tie the definition to that. Dan also suggested that we should avoid individual devices (VCR’s, Computer). Keep it general.
How does all this coordinate with 1159.1, 1159.2 and 1159.3?
Distributed Generation (Micro Turbines/PV) was discussed. How do you monitor micro-grids? This will be a topic for future meeting.
