2030 Smart Grid Interoperability Series of Standards
Welcome to the website for the 2030 Smart Grid Interoperability Series of Standards. The IEEE standards development process is open and voluntary and operates
under a consensus process. The best way to participate in standards development is to attend working group (WG) meetings. All WG meetings are open meetings. Information on upcoming WG meetings can be found on
the individual WG sites.
The Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007 calls for the development of protocols and standards to increase the flexibility of use for Smart Grid equipment and systems.
Under Section 1305 of the act, this interoperability framework "shall be flexible, uniform, and technology neutral" and "align policy, business, and technology approaches in a manner that
would enable all electric resources, including demand-side resources, to contribute to an efficient, reliable electricity network."
The 2030 Smart Grid standards share the common goal of interoperability supported by interrelated and complementary technologies.
