New Sponsor for IEEE P1583
It has been a little quite lately on the reflector but a lot has been going
on other places. First, we have our Web site up (partially). The URL is:
/grouper.ieee.org/groups/1583
Many thanks to Curt Parkinson for his work in initiating the site and serving
as our Webmaster.
The heart of the site is up but the Task Group pages and many documents need
to be posted. This will happen over the next few days.
The first thing you will notice is that the home page is titled SCC 38. Last
week the IEEE Standards Association Standards Board created a specific
sponsor for our project and any related projects which may come up in the
future. This is Standards Coordinating Committee 38. A Standards
Coordinating Committee is an entity within the IEEE which allows multiple
technical societies and organizations to cooperate in developing a standard
or group of standards. The organizations may be IEEE entities or outside the
IEEE.
The formation of the SCC and even its existence will probably not be
noticeable in our work. It doesn't change our project at all. However, it
does a number of structural things that are very important. We now have the
means to establish formal liaisons and conduct business for the committee.
This decision by the Standards Board is further indication of the importance
they give our project and their intention and commitment to it for the long
term.
Best Regards,
Stephen
