RE: Hand Recounts of votes recorded on DREs
Thanks for the discussion. It reminded me to formulate a comment on
default behavior in straight party voting. This issue caused numerous
complaints of vote switching by machines in the recent election.
Although I'm not on the usability task group, I worked for a few years
in human-machine simulation and took courses in usability (then called
"Human Engineering") as an undergraduate. One thing I learned was that
if people commonly make mistakes using a system it is the fault of the
system designer and needs to be corrected in the design.
