Re: Sidelined by discussions -- stop and do the real work

Rebecca,
I think you read more into my emails than was intended. I got into this
thread because of several unsupported statements that contradicted the
facts that I believed to be true. There is no conspiracy on my part to
distract people who want to contribute to the standard development
process. I think we need to address some of these issues, like printer
reliability and would like to see the results from an actual election
using the VVPB systems. That may shed light on whether the systems are
usable in a real, large scale election or not. I have not seen that data
to date.

Additionally, all of the comments on the last round were addressed and
the resolution is on the document site. I do agree that we need to
continue to be involved in reviewing the document and working the
improve the content of the standard. I have not been involved for 3
years in this effort because I have any connection, financial or
otherwise with any vendor. I am invested in the democratic process and
want to see the voters have an opportunity to cast their ballots and
have them correctly counted. I am not convinced that there is some great
conspiracy by Microsoft or other operating system vendors and especially
not voting systems vendors who have the most to lose if there is a
problem with their equipment. If we unnecessarily jack up the cost of
voting systems either by adding printers to each system or through
testing that is beyond that necessary to assure we have valid results
reported, then we are part of the problem of jurisdictions not being
able to buy enough systems to keep the lines short and of those without
sight not being able to vote privately.

I hope you will not hold my service to our country against me.
