SPD Related Standards, Guides and Practice Documents in Revision or Creation

A Project Authorization Request (PAR) is the official document that authorizes work on a standards project in the IEEE. The PAR defines the scope, purpose, and contact points for the new project. The PAR is a public, legal document, signed by the working group chair and the sponsoring Subcommittee.

PARs are approved by the IEEE Standards Board based on a review and recommendation from the New Standards Committee (NesCom), one of IEEE Standards Board committees. All SPDC PARs numbers start with the prefix PC62. A list of the currently active PARs is given on the IEEE Standards Association Web site. The PAR shows which Working Group is responsible for completing the document.

Should you wish to participate in the development of new or revised documents; see which Working Group is responsible, then contact the document Working Group chairperson. Participation usually requires attending the Working Group sessions at the Spring and Fall SPDC meetings and electronic collaboration between sessions.

PAR details are in the sub-menu buttons and are categorized into HV SPDs, LV Power SPDs, LV Communications SPDs and LV SPD Components.

Membership/Participation Requirements

For those who would like to become involved in our activities, here is a short guide to our membership levels and requirements.

Meeting Attendance and Working Group Participation

All who are interested are welcome to turn up at one of our twice yearly meetings, pay the registration fee and participate in working group discussions. There are no membership requirements or other qualifications for this.

Working Group Membership

Formal membership in each of our working groups is controlled by the working group chair, in accordance with the SPDC Organization and Procedure Manual, plus any extra qualifications required by that specific Working Group. Active participation by working group members may be in the form of meeting attendance or contributions by correspondence. Working group members are encouraged to join IEEE and the IEEE Power Engineering Society.

Main Committee Membership

Membership in the SPDC is open to those who have actively participated in working group activities in accordance with the SPDC Organization and Procedure Manual, and requires sponsorship by a working group chair. Regular meeting attendance is a requirement of ongoing membership, and all committee members must be members of the IEEE Power Engineering Society.
