"Upgrading Legacy Substations using Drop-in Control Houses"

This approach retires the old control building in place eliminating the cost of modifications. The drop-in control house contains the new protection and control equipment and sometimes the battery supply system. The drop-in control house is factory assembled, tested and shipped to the substation site. The site work consists of installing a pad and running control and instrumentation wiring from the substation structure to the new control house.

The discussion will be kicked off by presentations on the experiences of several utilities. Planned speakers:

Kevin Street, Operations Supervisor, Overton Power

Brian McDermott, Regional Sales and Service Manger, SEL Inc.

H. Lee Smith, Vice President Business Development, DC Systems, Inc.

Presentations:

PSCE Introduction

IEEE Overview of PG&E's MPAC Substations
