You are wondering, perhaps, what Plato's 'Sophist',
not to mention the eponymous Sophist him/her/it/self,
for that matter, might conceivably have to do with the
issues of our respective fora, "for a' that", I imagine.
So let me just say, for starters, that I grasp the 'Sophist'
to anticipate, in remarkable detail and with striking force,
all of the most significant issues that we have had to face
in the last millennium, from the creative discovery of zero
through the continuing revolutions of the information epoch.
In its underlying technique of exposition, that is to say, as the Stranger says,
its devious way of "angling", that seeks to approach its subject "from underneath",
it gives an almost perfect illustration of a formal, logical, mathematical, narrative
method that we have come to know in our times as a "recursive analytic procedure" (RAP).
But Plato's 'Sophist', like the wily objective that it vainly tries to signify,
is not with any facility so easy to keep within the grasp of one's comprehension,
as I have discovered, sadder yet wiser, over the last thirty years or so. And so
I will have to address the subject with some degree of reserve, if not to sing and
to dance my way around the perverse polimorphe fractal perimeter of his/her/its lair.
