I typed FOGS into Google and got 44,200 hits, including the following:
Friends of Girl Scouting
Gesellschaft fuer Forschung und Beratung im Gesundheits- und
Socialbereich
Friends of the Gardens
Friends of Glusburn School
Faculty of Graduate Studies, UBC
Falling Object Guard Structure
and many others.
Bottom line: You can define any acronym you please for use within
a document. The restrictions on trade marks, etc., apply only to
more general use in unrestricted circumstances.
