On-Line Testbed: Links to components requested
All,
Here's an approach to getting rolling toward an online test
environment. Let's start by building a web site or Wiki site of links
to all existing components, tools, services, etc. that ontology
researchers and developers might use.
The goal will be to achieve critical mass of contributors and
users, such that this becomes a go-to collaborative environment for
researchers and for developers in this field.
To get started, could people send links to Roberto Bordogna
[bordogna@tin.it] and me (please don't send them to the whole list).
Volunteers are also needed to surf for links and help construct the
initial website.

===============Original Concept================================
Idea: Set up an online testbed
Description: Set of online tools and components that can be assembled to
conduct tests and demonstrations.
Funding Model:
Volunteer managed governance
Server infrastructure provided by IEEE
Components contributed by academia and open-content-oriented
vendors
Projects independently funded and managed
Benefits:
Allows focus on components (can be combined with other free
components for a demonstration)
Allows others to analyze prior tests and demonstrations
Allows many to focus on key unsolved problems
Allows funding organizations to see consensus on what the
unsolved problems are*
Leads to component-based and open-content commercial solutions
Enables specialization: Larger projects could sub-task smaller
developers (or individuals), allowing them to specialize and start
growing a component industry.
* Note: I believe if this field can achieve some consensus on the key
unsolved problems, it can attract funding to solve them.
