IEEE Working Group on Voltage Quality

Mission Statement

The Voltage Quality Workgroup (VQWG) addresses issues regarding the quality of voltage supplied to the
customers equipment from the electric power system.

Specific Scope

Specifically, the VQWG maintains and updates the IEEE 1250 Guide. It is also a forum for thoughtful
discussion and action about voltage level, fluctuation, sags (dips), swells, conducted noise, and anything
else that adversely affects the quality of supplied voltage. The "Voltage Fluctuation and Light Flicker"
(IEEE 1453) and "Voltage Sag Indices" (IEEE 1564) task forces report to the Voltage Quality Working
Group.

While voltage distortion topics are discussed in general within the VQWG, the VQWG is not the primary
forum for addressing distortion issues. This is done within the Waveform Distortion (formerly Harmonics)
working group. Similarly, reliability and customer-side quality issues are also primarily addressed by othe
IEEE forums.

Voltage Quality Survey

Please feel free to participate in our IEEE Voltage Quality survey.  This short, 5-10 minute survey is our means to understand

how electrical utilities around the world plan for, interpret, and resolve voltage quality issues on their distribution and

transmission systems.

Next Meeting

The next scheduled meeting for the 1250 working group will take place January 11-15 at the IEEE Power Engineering Society Joint Technical Committee Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.

Both the working group and its task forces regularly meet with the IEEE Power Quality Subcommittee. See their schedule for the subcommittee's next meetings.
