STC/STIL meetings

Meeting opened with a brief summary of the STC/STIL meetings that
just occurred in Austin Mon Jan 24-Wed 26. Overall, the meetings were
very positive. STC has interest in funding some amount of STIL
support, as well as working inside their group to identify support of
STIL in the OPENSTAR context. There is concern about the current dual
development efforts between STC and STIL flow, and agreement to work
together as the STC can join the dot4 Working Group at any point.

At this meeting, a presentation of the current STIL extensions was given

by Tony Taylor. Also a set of projects was proposed to bring

OPENSTAR and STIL into closer alignment. This proposal can be

accessed from the stil-user-group web site:

Don's review comments re. expressions

Reviewed Don's proposal over expression concerns, and discussed
changes in particular to table 5. No negative concerns raised about
this. Tony agreed incorporate the changes into D22 for review at the

next wg meeting.

Dwayne's review comments

Dwayne identified his current concern is that there are too many
capabilities in dot1, concerned about what may not be present in an
implementation. This is not an issue limited to dot1, it's been
identified that many current implementations of the existing specs
support only a subset of the full language (that subset being the
common set currently generated across tools). Discussed the notion of
subsets, perhaps application-centric, to identify what constructs will
be available in a context. Tom identified a concern about further
complicating implementations given an array of dotted constructs AND a
set of subsets. John indicated that one 'subset' area he's had recent
conversations in is with scan functionality - what behaviors in scan
contexts are allowed or not allowed.

The proposal was made to consider identifying supported/
unsupported constructs as part of dot3, to allow
tool/application/context - specific definition of limitations.

Gordon's review comments

Although not received in time for the meeting, Gordon has reviewed

D21 and his 10 comments are now included in the review

resolution document for D22.

Meeting ended at 10:39

Next meeting

Next meeting in two weeks, Feb 10, 10 am PST.

AIs

  1. Tony - create a new D22 and make the changes agreed to on 1/14 and 1/27.

  2. Tony - make adjustments to the document wrt "type safe" issue discussed on 1/27

  3. Rohit - discuss with Jason Doege the P1500 definition for complex scan cells and see if they can define a better way to represent these cells in 1450.1.

  4. Tony - make changes to Table 5 per Don's suggestion to clarify the content of expressions

  5. WG - review GR comments at next wg meeting
