Re: Official text of motion 3

Vladik (and P1788 FYI),

I append the official text. The motion can also be found in
the private area of the P1788 web site, at:

http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/1788/

If people need the user name and password for the private area,
they should contact me.

Sincerely,

Baker

===Motion text===
The P1788 Interval arithmetic standard defines intervals as closed and connected sets of real numbers.
That means that ± Infinity may be used to denote an unbounded interval but are never considered as members of an interval.

===Rationale===
The Vienna Proposal section 1.2
Kulisch's position paper "Complete Interval Arithmetic"
The extensive discussion in the mailing list

Subject: Discussion period for Motion 3 ends "today"

IEEE P-1788 members:

The discussion period for motion 3 officially ends today.
So far, I have seen no formal motions to amend, with seconds.
(Such motions would begin "I move that we amend ... by ...".)

Absent further discussion, official voting will begin on Tuesday,
April 7, 2009. For official purposes, Tuesday April 7 means when
it is Tuesday, April 7 at distance \epsilon east of the international
date line, for arbitrarily small \epsilon.

Best regards,

Baker
