I agree. After all, we are trying to produce a product that will
be widely recognized, adopted, and implemented. The purpose of a
standard is to have all implementations do things the same way, for
interoperability, portability, and predictability. This will not occur if
we alienate a significant portion of our communities of producers and users.
That said, I mention my understanding that the final 754-2008 ballot passed
by only something like 75%.
