Motion P1788/M0004.01_Keep_to_754 YES, with comment



I vote YES.

I agree that the wording is unclear.  However, I disagree
with Arnold's proposed rewording, that "P1788 strives to be
independent of IEEE-754 as far as meaningful,...,"  and I'm
better able to support the present wording. In particular,
there are many advantages to following the floating point
standard, including simplicity and possible eventual inclusion of
1788 directly into a future 754 standard.  As participants in the
standardization process, we should support and demand existing
standards.

The above is my personal opinion.  As acting chair, I will
take appropriate, unbiased action, dependent on the outcome
of this vote.
