RE: Motion P1788/M0011.01:Basic Interval Arithmetic Operations: Voting period begins

I concur. The topic is very important, but judging by the reaction within our own community, the text is not written in a was that would make this importance clear.

I therefore vote NO on the text, but YES on the idea -- meaning that as soon as the text is redone, I will definitely vote Yes.

I know this is not proper according to our procedure. Maybe Alexandre, Frederic and others in constraints community will take a stab of editing ( or rewruiting) this motion?

Dear all,

A motion on reverse operation is important: Reverse operations are
central for constraint programming, the latter being a significant
area of interval analysis.

That's why my vote is NO.

Rational: The motion on reverse operations should clearly show that
the three arguments extended interval division is necessary, and
should define one variable functions reverse operations (like sin,
cos, exp, ect.). The motion should also have a didactic role, since
reverse operations are not well known to the majority. However in my
opinion Motion 11.01 misses this later aim: For example Definition 8
is not clear to me, while it is the key point of this motion.

In case this motion is canceled e.g. by a NO majority, I will be
pleased to participate to the writing of an updated and polished
motion.

Best regards,

Alexandre
