P-1788: We are at the point where we can start voting on selected portions of our final document. (In fact, this seems advisable, for us to remain on schedule to deliver the document to our Sponsor, the IEEE Microprocessor Standards Committee, by the official ending of our term.) The officers have been examining the draft over the past month or so, with regard to which portions still need work, how to accomplish the work, and which portions are ready. Along these lines, we have identified the short sections 6.1 (Representation of intervals by lower / upper bounds) and 6.2 (Format conversion) as ready for a vote. We felt it advisable to put these sections forward, as a start to our practice of voting on the actual wording. I remind people that, since this is the actual wording, we follow the more formal procedures outlined in 10.6 of our Policies and Procedures (attached in PDF). For convenience, I have also attached the page of the working document containing 6.1 and 6.2. The working document may also be found in the private area at http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/1788/ (Please contact me if you need a password to the private area.) Since I am acting as chair, usual practice is that I not make the motion. I THEREFORE NEED A MOVER AND A SECONDER. If you are so inclined, you may paste the information between the "======" below into an email and make the motion, filling in your name as "Proposer." Best regards, Baker =============================================================== Proposer: Second: Motion: ------- The text in sections 6.1 and 6.2 of the current draft, Version 02.2, of the draft P1788 standard text shall be accepted as official text of the standard. Please note the following. 1. A two thirds majority is required for this motion to pass. 2. The text will be revised as a whole in approximately July 2011; thus the decision to accept this text does not set it in stone. A revision to accepted text will not be made before then (except for removing typos) unless a clear inconsistency in the text is uncovered. 3. Following our procedures, a NO vote to this motion should be accompanied by a description of the changes that would enable the voter to vote YES. =============================================================== 2 attachments -- --------------------------------------------------------------- R.
