P-1788 working group report

P-1788:

As many of you know, there is a quarterly teleconference of
the IEEE Microprocessor Standards Committee (MSC) 18:00UTC
on the second Monday after the beginning of the quarter
(e.g. this coming Monday, April 11). P-1788 submits a
report at these meetings, normally submitted by our
president Nathalie Revol. Since the group has been relatively
quiet and since I have not heard from Nathalie recently,
I am taking the liberty of attaching a possible draft report,
which I will submit as the official report if Nathalie is
unable to submit one.

If anyone has suggestions or objections before Monday, please
contact me before 2011/04/11/12:00UTC.

Best regards,

Baker

Working group report for IEEE MSC P-1788: Interval arithmetic

After many quarters of fairly intense activity, the first quarter of
2011 was quiet. Most identified controversial issues had already been
decided with votes on position papers, and our technical editor, John
Pryce, has been using that guidance to revise the draft standard,
in preparation for a vote on the wording. John needs to be solidly
recognized for the major role he has been playing and for the long hours
he has contributed to date.

Although there are a couple of proposed position papers upon which action can
be taken, the next organizational step appears to be scheduling all portions
of the document for a vote, consistent with completing agreement on the
document during the working group's tenure.
