I will second John's motion.
Off the top of my head, I would answer George's query
about rubbish constructions by returning an interval
who's interval part is empty with some appropriately
rude decoration (undefined at the very least). But
that goes to how one decorates a constructed interval
& I understand John's desire to settle the mechanics
of interval construction before going into how to
decorate things.
