simplifier in chief

John,
I am interested in the job as simplifier in chief.
I can think of several tasks to be done listed with increasing radicality
I think the time is already so far that we cannot afford discussion about 3 and more 

0. local simplification
1. Definition of a basic standard :
	remove every recommended or optional part
	remove flavors
	put the remaining text together
2. simplify individual parts
	decorations,
	literals etc.
3. restructure the text
	the levels help in design but a more linear text is easier to read cf 754
4. make more features optional
5. give up the generic type-hype and specify only infsup intervals for
754 types

I am not sure that such a procedure is helpful for 1788 in the whole
