This is certainly not correct. I mentionend in an earlier mail that the EDP was hardware supported in the 1980ies on processrs of the /370 architecture by IBM, Siemens, Hitachi, and others. And I know that today processor makers are at least thinking to realize it.
IEEE P1788 should support these activities by requiring it.
