[P-1788] Update on 1788 working group business

1788 working group:

Here is an update on our business:

1. We have agreed (with no objections received) to discuss
the proposed actions in response to the Sponsor Ballot
   comments until February 27.

2. After February 27:
    (a) Our lead editor (John) will compile a complete list
of our responses, and supply an updated document in PDF.
    (b) Christian Keil will supply a list of changes, created
from automatically comparing versions from the SVN
        repository.
    (c) Juergen will post the updated document and the list of
        differences on
        http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/1788/private/
alongside the original document (version 9.5).

3. After (2) is done (hopefully by March 6), the Sponsor will
   initiate an official recirculation ballot.

4. After recirculation (that is, tentatively, by March 31),
if the recirculation passes, the Sponsor will prepare the
package and submit it to REVCOM before the April 24 deadline,
for consideration at the June 5 REVCOM meeting.

5. GOOD NEWS: the P-1788.1 Project Authorization Request (PAR,
for the "basic standard") has been granted, as of February 16,
assigned to our working group. Its term expires on December 31,
2019. Since this project essentially involves a simplification
of the primary 1788 standard, to be used in limited environments
and as a development stepping stone, we should be able to
process it more quickly (although we may wish to make sure
it is consistent with, e.g. an actual subset of, IEEE STD 1788).
I am hoping Ned Nedialkov (the submitter) will take the lead
in formulating motions and in the editing on this project.
We may use our familiar P-1788 working group policies and procedures
   in this process.

Best regards,

Baker
