Requested revision
Standard:802.1Q-2011Clause:35
Clause title:Stream Registration Protocol
Rationale for revision
Received from Michelle Turner (IEEE editing staff): The Working Group chair from P1722.1 contacted us with the follow inquiry. Can you please advise on how we should answer this. It looks like an error was introduced. The correct term should be Stream Reservation Protocol as indicated in the Definitions Clause and the first paragraph of Clause 35. I'm not sure if this error was corrected in one of the recently published amendments. I assume that he should include the correct name of the protocol, but thought it was best to check with you first. Thanks. In our Section 3.2 we have a definition for the term "Active Stream," and this term comes from IEEE Std 802.1Q-2011 Clause 35. The title of Clause 35 in that standard is "Stream Registration Protocol" yet this is a mistake in IEEE Std 802.1Q-2011 - The proper name for the section should be "Stream Reservation Protocol", as shown in the first paragraph of Clause 35 which states: The Stream Reservation Protocol (SRP) utilizes three signaling protocols, MMRP (10.9), MVRP (Clause 11) and MSRP (35.1) to establish stream reservations across a bridged network. As the accepted name of the protocol is "Stream Reservation Protocol", is it acceptable for me to refer to the clause as: IEEE Std 802.1Q-2011 Clause 35, "Stream Reservation Protocol" As I expect that 802.1Q will get fixed? Or am I required to refer to it by the incorrect name? Or may I just drop the clause name?
Proposed text
Make the title of Clause 35 consistent with the definition for SRP in Clause 4.
Impact on existing networks
None.
