Background
Next Generation Positioning is a new study group within the IEEE 802.11
working group that will address the needs of a Station to identify its absolute
and relative position to another station or stations its either associated or
unassociated with.
Goals
The goal of this IEEE 802.11 study group is to produce an amendment to the
IEEE Std-802.11 to enhance accuracy and
scalability of positioning (over and above that provided by the Fine Timing
Measurement mechanism in IEEE Std 802.11) as well as
add support for new positioning techniques for fixed, portable, and mobile
stations.
