Background

IEEE 802.11 has approved the creation of a new task group to work on a major amendment, IEEE 802.11be, for next generation wireless LAN.

The new amendment will define Extreme High Throughput (EHT) physical (PHY) and medium access control (MAC) layers capable of supporting a maximum throughput of at least 30 Gbps.

The amendment will also aim at reducing worst case latency and jitter to improve support for time sensitive applications such virtual reality, augmented reality, gaming, etc.

TGbe is continuing its work via teleconference calls distributed between May 2022 and July 2022 and is running electronic motions on pre-approved Joint* conference calls. Four of these teleconference calls were scheduled during the May Electronic sessions.

TGbe focused on comment resolutions, and to a lesser extent on proposed draft texts. The group resolved all CC36 comments (progress shown below). The resulting approved resolutions appear in IEEE802.11be D2.0. In addition, the group approved amending the TGbe timeline to account for the 2 month delay in delivering D2.0. A 40-day WG letter ballot is approved on IEEE802.11be. In addition, TGbe approved an ad-hoc meeting for September 07-09, 2022 in San Diego, CA for the purpose of comment resolution.
