Re: [STDS-802-11-TGBN] MAC CR document for enablement/disablement of modes on AP side

Hi Gaurang,

Thank you for the contribution. Please find some comments below:

  • Having a common count down timer outside the Mode Tuple List for all modes is also not a good design. If AP needs to start multiple features with different count-down, then multiple elements need to be carried which is a wasteful overhead. Having the count down timer as part of each field of the list is better.
  • What is the point of knowing when in the past the update took place for Countdown Timer? We can assign value of 0 to mean the update has already happened. I feel there is no need for > 127.
  • Using only 4 bits for Mode Length may not be sufficient. Better to be flexible for now.
  • Using the mode length to indicate whether mode is being enabled/disabled is not a good design. It can limit future generalization when the parameter lengths may need to be increased. Suggest to have separate mode enable/disable indication.
  • Carrying the indication sometimes in Basic ML element, and sometimes independently by itself is confusing. Why not always carry it in basic ML element? Also why not use Reconfig ML element instead of basic ML element since that is used from non-AP STA side anyway. Indication in multiple possible locations etc., may increase complexity.
  • The minimum time to broadcast the signaling before the parameter/mode change should be specified by the standard and shouldn’t be left to implementation.

P.S. Please also see below a contribution from me where I propose procedure for DPS enablement/update at AP, which is fairly well aligned with your proposal but resolves some of above issues, e.g., a separate count-down timer, and a separate enablement/disablement field.
