I'm not delighted by "transmit a group addressed BSS Transition Management Request frame"

because it suggests that you could multicast the frame, especially with

the subsequent "to associated non-AP STAs".  I think it would be better to be clear

that the frame is either unicast or broadcast, nothing else.  If

"may broadcast an X frame" is not liked, then I'd be OK with

"may transmit a broadcast X frame".

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark and all,

I received some comments from Payam, as shown in below. Please share your opinion on these editorial changes. If there is no objection, we can motion on 0565r5.

(Editorial) Revert to existing text. Baseline text uses “transmit a group addressed frame”, “transmit a frame with Address 1 field set to broadcast address”, or similar, instead of “broadcast a frame” (we have broadcasting information, elements etc., but not frames -- there are two exceptions from 11ad text (P2402L41, P2443L6) – uncommon).

So I post the changes as follows and review 22/0565r5.

11.21.7.3         BSS transition management request

An AP that supports BSS transition management shall respond to a BSS Transition Management Query frame with a BSS Transition Management Request frame. The AP may send an unsolicited BSS Transition Management Request frame to a non-AP STA at any time if the non-AP STA indicates in the Extended Capabilities element that it support BSS transition management; otherwise the AP shall not send an unsolicited BSS Transition Management Request frame to the STA. The AP may transmit a group addressed BSS Transition Management Request frame to associated non-AP STAs if all associated non-AP STAs support the BSS transition management; otherwise the AP shall not transmit a group addressed BSS Transition Management Request frame. When the BSS Transition Management Request frame is transmitted as a group addressed frame, a receiving non-AP STA shall not respond with a BSS Transition Management Response frame. A non-AP STA that supports BSS transition management shall respond to an individually addressed BSS Transition Management Request frame with a BSS Transition Management Response frame.

11.21.7.4 BSS transition management response

The AP’s SME may terminate or delay BSS Termination based on policies that are out of the scope of this standard. The MLME-RESET.request primitive is invoked to terminate the BSS. The AP shall disassociate all STAs immediately prior to termination of the BSS.
