[802.3_NGAUTO] NGAUTO ad hoc and next steps

Colleagues,

Our study group made a great deal of progress at our first meeting in
Huntington Beach, with the adoption of draft PAR text, draft CSD responses
and 10 objectives. There is still a great deal of work to do as we have not
yet adopted any objectives for one (or more) PHY and link segment(s) and
without them, there is no project.

I would like to use the ad hoc to bring forward any additional information
required to develop such an objective or objectives. Some discussion of
rates other than 10 Gb/s was made. If those rates are of interest, then
supporters must provide information on broad market potential, technical
and economic feasibly for evaluation by the study group. If much of the work
and consensus-building can be done on the reflector, the work at our face to
face meeting in February will be straightforward and will allow our group to
request task force status in March.

As a reminder, if we are unable to request task force status in March, our
next opportunity will be in July with our first task force meeting at the
November plenary. This wastes most of the year, which is unacceptable.

Our February interim will be hosted by General Motors in Warren, MI, USA See

Thanks to everyone who contributed and participated in our Huntington Beach
session.

Regards,

Steve
