IEEE 802.3 YANG Open Source Project Update – January 2026

Dear Colleagues,

This is a quick update of what’s been happening with the project.

  • Coming out of the November 2025 plenary, we obtained approval from 802.3(Yang closing report) and 802 (802.3 EC closing report) to move forwards and submit the project request to OSCom.
  • The project request was submitted to OSCom, and was discussed during the 2025 12 18 meeting (agenda, minutes).  The project was approved without objection.
  • The next step in the process was for me to meet with the OSCom Community Manager(Josh Gay) to discuss project governance, project naming,  initial commit etc.
  • I met with Josh 1/12/6, during the meeting:
  • I will begin collecting CLAs (IEEE OS BSD 3-Clause CLA) to enable the project to seed the repository using the 802.3.22-2025 YANG modules. There are both individual and entity versions of the CLA. Please review these documents to determine the appropriate one to submit.
  • If you have been a contributor to 802.3.2 in the past or intend to contribute to this project in the future, please work with your employer(s) to complete an appropriate CLA. Detailed instructions are at CLA and Terms of Use . If you have questions about this process, please contact me and/or the OSCom Community Manager(Josh Gay).
  • I’ve looked through the contributions to 802.3.2-2019 and 802.3.2-2025 (e.g., meeting presentations,  submitted comments, etc) to find contributors to both projects.  I will be reaching out to these individuals and/or the companies they were affiliated with/employed by at the time of their contributions to obtain CLAs.

I don’t plan to start a regular meeting series during the process of gathering CLAs. I intend to meet in person at the March 802 plenary in Vancouver.
