Re: Fwd: [EFM-OAM] 802.1ad
Sorry, guys. I was on the efm reflector, but not on the efm-oam reflector.
What does provider-bridge-l2-protocols-2.pdf mean? (: What does anything
mean ... :)
I believe that it means several things:
1. OAM frames may have utility in situations other than just provider-customer
links.
2. OAM is not the only protocol that would like to run both in the enterprise
and between a provider and a customer, and perhaps even end-to-end from
customer equipment to customer equipment. (Might a customer want to
put his own device at the other end of the Provider-supplied link into
loopback mode in order to test the Provider's link or to test throughput?)
3. Perhaps aligning OAM with other protocols that may be used across the
Provider-Customer boundary with regards to the destination MAC address
used is in order.
4. This might mean that OAM uses the Slow Protocols address from the new
Provider Bridge space, instead of the existing one, or that it can be
used with either address, depending on what other device the sender
wants to speak with.
This should not be too difficult to resolve. I will check the OAM archives
to see if I've missed much discussion on this subject, so far.
