[STDS-802-Privacy] WiFi Privacy experiment @ IEEE 802 Berlin + IETF 92 Dallas

Dear all,

As discussed during the IETF-IEEE802 Executive Coordination meeting, a MAC Privacy experiment will be carried out at the upcoming IEEE 802 Berlin plenary and IETF 92 Dallas meetings.

We have coordinated with the network provider for both events (Verilan) and the network setup will be similar to the one used at IETF 91 in Honolulu.

In line with the latest discussions on the list, this time we are implementing a different DHCP rule to assign a shorter lease time to the Local (randomly generated) MAC addresses. This would allow us 1) capturing a more frequent number of DHCP exchanges for logging reasons, and 2) not running out of DHCP pool (which from our previous observations seems to be unlikely in any case).

The team at UC3M has re-worked the client tools/scripts that we want to use for these experiments. Now the tools respect the MAC address prefix for the DHCP assignation. They have also added support for mobile (Andriod) devices. The details are here:

We request interested people in this group to test the tools and report back any findings. Of course, those planning to attend either the IEEE 802 Plenary in Berlin or IETF 92 in Dallas are strongly encouraged to participate in the experiment with their devices.

Best regards,

Juan Carlos
