RE: stds-802-mobility: High level agenda is available
Gang et al:
I agree with Reza - and I think another e-mail just received on same subject
from Joanne, I think it was.
We would be much better getting on with it, dispensing - as before - with
this overlap IMHO. Just to ensure there is no misunderstanding by either
side ( .20, others) we could have, say, our liaison VC attend, report
to/from - or maybe Jerry do that ?
But I think it silly to have all .20 members attend this overlap joint
session. Apart from anything else I find such sessions totally unwieldy in
terms of real informative content, discussion etc. They tend to be more
formal, formulaic even - great for those just concerned about catching up on
e-mail and gaining attendance points, but we can use the time more
productively, I consider.
If there are any matters that require all attend en bloc with the other
parties, I'd like to know what these issue are, discuss them at least on
this reflector - and in any case have a representative there. Would there
be planned to be any substantive discussion (sic) at such a joint session,
and if so on what, that is what I am asking ?

Gang,
Thanks for the explanation. So, what it means is that it is highly
recommended to attend that plenary and its attendance counts toward session
participation. No attendance is really mandatory. I agree that there are
merits in finding out what goes on in other WGs. However, your argument
about this saving us time doesn't seem to be valid. Looking at the agenda,
right after the joint session, you have included "Opening session" under
which are items that actually make up our opening plenary. If we actually
want to save time, we can choose not to participate in the joint plenary.

Reza,
Thank you for the question. I think Jerry announced previously. We used to
have a WG Opening Plenary after the joint plenary. Since the content of our
plenary is almost the same as that in the joint one, we decided to not have
our own opening plenary again in order to save time. We believe this is also
the spirit to have a joint opening plenary. As a result, the attendance of
the joint plenary becomes mandatory because it is important. Thanks.

Gang Wu
