RE: stds-802-mobility: Fwd: [802SEC] UPDATE: URL Link for 802.11 PARs For Consideration by the SEC

Lee Armstrong, Chair 802.11 WAVE SG,

With reference to my email early last week from Jerry Upton regarding a proposed official comment from 802.20 regarding your PAR title as one of the primary resolutions of your group at the Florida meeting. As I believed previously this may become their official comment per the email below. Please act accordingly.

As I stated previously, due consideration of all other WGs comments must be returned to that group by Wednesday before 5 pm of that session.

Regards,

Stuart

Jerry,

With regard to the concern I expressed in my February 17th note to the reflector (attached), please be advised that I am planning to present the following motion during our open plenary:

Motion: Request to 802.11 to change the title of their PAR (provisionally
802.11p) from "Wireless Access for the Vehicular Environment" to "Wireless Access for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Applications" to avoid the appearance of overlap with the work of 802.20.

All: Please review this motion and be prepared to vote on it on Monday or Tuesday morning. According to the 802 operating rules we must get all of our concerns to the working groups planning to submit PARs by Tuesday at 5:00pm, and we must do so in writing. Quick passage of this motion will allow us to concentrate on our primary work with little delay to handle this potential concern.

If anyone has any concerns with the proposed motion, please post your concerns to the reflector so that we can try to resolve potentially conflicting ideas with a minimum of meeting time.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Joanne

Jerry,

I reviewed the various PARs and don't see any that impinge on the work of 802.20.
However, the title of project, "Wireless Access for the Vehicular Environment"
(provisionally 802.11 Task Group p), could give the impression that there is an overlap. If others in 802.20 agree, we could propose that they use a different title for the project. One option could be, "Wireless Access for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Applications". Personally, I think they would also benefit in having a title that more clearly and accurately reflects their purpose.

Best regards,

Joanne

All,
The 802.11 Working Group has four PARs that will be reviewed and voted on by the 802 Executive Committee at the March Plenary.
Please review and provide any comments. If there are specific items that warrant a discussion directly with an 802.11 representative, then we can request a representative and add to our agenda for March.
Regards,
Jerry Upton
