Proposed Schedule for IEEE 802.20

Our preliminary agenda calls for discussion of a project schedule.  I was waiting to make comments on the schedule proposed by the chair, but the deadline for posting documents has passed and I have not seen any proposed schedules yet.  Therefore, I am using this email to kick off the subject.  I refer you to Slide 3 of the presentation I made at the January interim meeting (C802.20-04-07.ppt, posted on our web site) with the following proposed schedule.
  • ØFinalize Requirements Document March 2004
  • vCall For Proposals Issued following March meeting (Proposals to be submitted in May and July)
  • ØCutoff for new proposals July 2004
  • ØFirst round evaluation and simulation of proposals through September 2004 interim meeting
  • ØSecond round evaluation Sept - Nov 2004
  • ØChoose proposals to be incorporated November 2004
  • Ø1st draft out for 30 day comment January 31, 2005 (assumes January 10 - 14 interim meeting with two weeks to prepare the draft).
Consensus was not reached on this schedule in January.  Note that at next week's meeting we will need to decide on some schedule.  Therefore, if you don't like what is here, please have specific changes in mind for our discussion so that we can establish an agreed to 802.20 schedule.

In addition to the recommendations above, we should be aware that the 802 Chair keeps a record of all project schedules with the following key dates:
Note that each project plan includes the following key dates:
P     Exec Approval of the PAR
W    Approval for WG Ballot
S     Exec Approval for Sponsor Ballot
R     Sponsor Ballot Recirculation
F     Exec Forward to Standards Board
A     Standards Board Approval
I      Publication Issued

My recommendation is that we should be on a Standards development schedule with the following key dates:
W = Approval for WG Ballot - November '04
S = Exec Approval for Sponsor Ballot - November '05
R = Sponsor Ballot Recirculation - January '06
F = Exec Forward to Standards Board - March '06
A = Standards Board Approval - June '06
I = Publication Issued - July '06

Again, we will have to reach agreement on all these dates.  If you prefer other dates, please post them to the reflector or come to the meeting prepared to discuss your preferences.

Thank you.

Best regards,
