All,
There are 802 Wireless Architecture meetings scheduled at the September Interim. The details are covered in the email below.
Given these are evening meetings and attendance is encouraged, we will grant attendance credit for the evening meetings as extra time slots credits. The attendance credit is similar to how we grant credit for Tutorials at a Plenary. You will need to sign in at the Architecture meeting and also note your attendance in the 802.20 attendance sign in book for credit.
I do encourage you to attend. If you have further questions regarding the architecture meetings, please contact Tom Siep, tom.siep@csr.comRegards,
Jerry Upton

All,
A request for a study group to address common 802 Wireless Architecture needs and issues was made at the Friday afternoon 802 Executive Committee meeting at San Francisco. This request was not granted. The reasoning was that architectural issues are the proper domain of the 802.1 group.
In place of the study group on wireless architecture needs, a sub-group of 802.1 was instituted to address the issues the participants raised at the two ad hoc meetings on the same subject. Tony Jeffree has appointed me to chair this group. Bottom line: the ad hoc groups got what they asked for -- in a slightly different form.
The Wireless Architecture sub-group will be meeting on Monday and Tuesday evening of the interim in Garden Grove. Please note that we do not (and shall not) limit attendance or audience to just wireless groups. All are welcome to attend. Obviously, at a wireless interim we are unlikely to get many people from the wired side of the world but we may have some, since 802.1 is co-locating their meeting.
We have two, two-hour meeting times. Subject to the approval of the attendees, I plan to have the following agenda:
Monday, 7pm (19:00)
19:00 Opening, introductions, and brief history of the group 19:15 Presentation of the issues, as I see them (Tom Siep, 20 min) 19:35 to 20:45 Submissions 20:45 Summary and plans for Tuesday
Tuesday, 7pm (19:00)
19:00 Opening 19:05 Submissions 20:15 Planning next steps
The point of this email is to request submissions for presenation at the above meetings. Topics might include (but not limited to):
- * Common needs of wireless technologies for interoperation
- * The problem of maintaining link attributes (such as QoS, for example) across multiple media
- * 802.21 as a basis for solving the larger problem
- * The need for a Standard or Recommended Practice or Guide for wireless architecture
- * The difference (if any) in the needs of the wired and wireless world
- * Scope of our concern: is it just wireless 802?
- * Other standards activities: 3GPP, DLNA...
- * What does it mean to have a "common wireless architecture?
- * Other topics...
When requesting a presentation slot, please specify how much time is anticipated, including discussion time. Persons submitting presentations are STRONGLY encouraged to make those available on your home document archive, with CC to me. I shall try to get a common document store set up for this activity so that we can review the materials before the meetings and make the most use of our limited time.
Attendance will be logged and WGs will have the option to assign "extra credit" for voter status maintenance.
