Re: +++Press News Byte - 802.15

Jim -

I'm with Geoff on this one. It is not clear to me that we need a "ballot
in principle" here - my take on this is that we have an established
principle that any WG that wishes to can issue a press release, but that on
a case-by-case basis we want to see and approve the the text before it goes
out.

I have a few problems with the text - if the quoted scope & purpose are
really the text that the SB approved in March, it surprises me slightly
that they didn't want the wording changed. to fix the first of these. So
for the present, I vote no.

Firstly, it is not clear what it means to ..."achieve a level of
interoperability or coexistence with other 802.15 Task Groups." Does this
mean that they send liaisons to each other & don't drink the other group's
break-time refreshments? Presumably the intent is that products based on
the standards produced by the TGs will coexist/interoperate, but that is
not what the words say.

Secondly (& its probably way too late to fix this one), I have to say that
POS is an unfortunate acronym to have chosen...

Thirdly, instead of talking about "intent...to work towards...coexistence
with other wireless devices" in the abstract, it might be more informative
to give an indication of what other types of device this might involve.

Fourthly, I agree with Geoff's point re lack of linkage to the goals of
802.15.1.

I would suggest the way out here is to move away from direct quotes of the
PAR material & write it in a more accessible/informative style. If they
want to read the actual PAR you could provide a pointer to the relevant
page on the IEEE website.

Regards,
Tony
