[802SEC] 802.11u PAR Executive Summary Supplement

This letter is an executive summary of the documentation from IEEE 802.11 WG you received last night before 5pm in your pigeon holes.

Dear ExCom Members,

The IEEE 802.11 Wireless InterWorking with External Networks (WIEN) Study Group (SG) received the following two comments from IEEE 802.21 regarding the WIEN SG PAR (802.11u):

1) IEEE 802.21 Comment:

"Amendment to 802.11u Title”

In order to clarify the efforts of the new Task Group and align those efforts with 802.21 WG, it is suggested that the naming of the new 802.11 Task Group be:  InterWorking with External Networks"

802.11 Resolution:

Within WIEN SG, a motion for this comment was moved as follows:

11 (yes),1 (no),14 (abstain) (hence approved)

Within IEEE 802.11 WG, a motion for this comment was moved as follows:

106 (yes), 1 (no), 5 (abstain) (hence approved)

Therefore the word “Wireless” was therefore removed from the PAR title

2) IEEE 802.21 Comment:

"Similar Scope"

802.21 WG feels that the following change would help to address the Similar Scope in relation to 802.11 WIEN PAR:

Change:

“It is worth noting that an agreement has been made between IEEE 802.21 and IEEE 802.11 WIEN SG to co-ordinate in avoiding any overlap in their scopes”

To:

“It is worth noting that an agreement has been made between IEEE 802.21 and IEEE 802.11 WIEN SG for an ongoing formal co-ordination in order to avoid any overlap in their scopes”

802.11 Resolution:

Within WIEN SG, a motion for this comment was moved as follows:

11 (yes),0 (no),16 (abstain) (hence approved)

Within IEEE 802.11 WG, a motion for this comment was moved as follows:

106 (yes), 1 (no), 5 (abstain) (hence approved)

The words “for an ongoing formal” were therefore added to section 16 of the PAR

Enclosed are the marked up versions of the PAR and 5 Criteria with highlighted changes for your consideration.

Kind regards

Stephen McCann
