Re: [802SEC] 802.15 reponses to comments received on the L2R PAR and 5C

Having read the responses to the comments and listened to the discussion with Clint in IEEE 802.1, I don't find the answer to the Recommended Practice vs Standard question at all satisfactory. In my experience (which includes being on the technical team that fixed the initial IEEE 802.3 repeater definition), getting interoperability for devices such as this requires stating requirements (i.e. lots of "shall"s) and won't be achieved by Recommended Practice.

Also the response to 802.1 does not fill me with confidence that the group is committed to coordination.

Regards,
Pat

Subject: [802SEC] 802.15 reponses to comments received on the L2R PAR and 5C

All-

We received comments from Bob Grow, Paul Nikolich, 802.1(Tony
specifically), 802.11, and 802.19. Attached are the responses to those
comments and related actions. A key point is that this is not a bridging
PAR. It is all about frame forwarding within a homogeneous 64bit MAC
environment (currently 15.4). Clint will be talking to Tony in more detail
about this over the next day to ensure we are all clear on the problem we
are attempting to address and why we believe that is different than what is
addressed in 802.1.

Please let us know if you have questions or further comments. It would be
good to address those before the Friday EC meeting.

Regards

Bob
