Paul – I won’t be able to make today’s meeting, but wanted to offer some feedback on the framemaker licenses, from my experience as an editor.

 

* Providing up to date framemaker licenses is increasingly desirable to an Editor.  This has been motivated now even among those who already had frame, since converting between versions is limited (using .MIF files breaks various links in IEEE 802.3 documents, for example), and getting a newer version requires a new capital outlay since Adobe has moved to a subscription basis since 2019.

* The use of an 802 license is primarily for editors on new projects – editors on an existing project generally have already figured out license availability.

* However, our 1-year trial period creates a problem for editors on new projects – they cannot rely on the 802 license, because the project will extend another year or more.  This has actually kept me, and my editorial team, from using the 802 license and upgrading to the latest tool.

 

I would suggest that 802 consider continuing the license for users on projects signed up as of March 2021, through the duration of their relevant standards project.
