RE: Standards references for certification

Rob and Steve,

Thanks for the input to the group.  The TC100 NWI is also located on the private pages of the website as is the MOU for the cell phone chargers for your review.

The HGI-RD015-R3 http://www.homegatewayinitiative.org/publis/HGI-RD015-R3.pdf shows 3 different dc connectors and also supplies references to a selection of national standards for mains attachment.

This will be most useful if the groups decides to attack the supply side of the adapter.  There is resistance noted to this direction. I sense most want to restrict our effort on the DC side.

...and the closely-related ETSI draft standard EN 301 489-34, resulting from the same MoU / EC Mandate M455, dealing with EMC aspects of (universal) mobile phone chargers. I'd expect that power supplies which aim to be compatible with a wide variety of user devices will need to have a great deal of attention paid to EMC.

Although these universal mobile phone standards may not be directly relevant for certification, they may have transplantable or otherwise interesting bits. Perhaps of closer relevance, I think mentioned by a previous correspondent, is the Home Gateway Initiative's standard HGI-RD015-R3, aiming to standardise some aspects of 10W, 24W and 60W PSUs for, er, home gateways.

Best wishes,
Rob Mann

There is a standard being developed by Cenelec, pr EN 50558,   Interoperability specifications of common external power supply (EPS) for use with data-enabled mobile telephones.

This has also been circulated by TC100 of the IEC.

It is limited to power supplies with micro USB connection.

In light of certification, because we do not want "bad" products out there; as I heard Bob say, herewith a list of standards that I know of, that talk about power supplies and their performance specifically.

IEEE 1515        IEEE Recommended Practice for Electronic Power Subsystems: Parameter Definitions, Test Conditions, and Test Methods
IEEE 1573        IEEE Recommended Practice for Electronic Power Subsystems: Parameters, Interfaces, Elements, and Performance
IEC 60478        Stabilized Power Supplies, d.c. output
IEC 61558        Safety of power transformers, power supply units and similar
IEC 61204        Low-voltage power supply devices, d.c. output
IPC 9592        Performance Parameters for Power Conversion Devices

As a fan of harmonization, I would hate to see conflicting demands.

Please feel free to amend the list.

Best regards,
Rene Koch
